Unwind at Rambouillet Forest: A Hidden Gem for Outdoor Lovers

Friday, November 1st, 2024, was a public holiday in Paris, so I decided to take a break from the city and explore Rambouillet Park, a beautiful animal park located just 50 km southwest of Paris. I discovered the trip on a meetup app and joined a group hosted by Thierry. Our group of nine split into two cars for the journey. My day began with a ride on the RER-B train from Cité Internationale Universitaire to Fontenay-aux-Roses. From there, Jean, one of our group members, gave me a lift in his car. The drive to Rambouillet Park took about an hour, and we arrived at 9:30 AM. Entry to the park cost €18, and it was worth every cent.

Rambouillet Park is a lush green sanctuary, offering picturesque landscapes, tranquil lakes, and towering ancient trees. The park is also home to the Espace Rambouillet, a wildlife area where you can see deer, wild boars, and birds of prey in their natural habitats. It’s a paradise for nature enthusiasts, with trails suited for hiking, biking, and bird-watching at all skill levels. What makes Rambouillet Park even more special is its connection to history. It’s part of the Domaine de Rambouillet, which includes the Château de Rambouillet, a historic castle dating back to the 14th century. Over the years, the château has hosted many French kings and presidents, adding a fascinating historical dimension to the park's natural beauty. We did not visit the Castle.

At 2:30 PM, we attended the highly anticipated raptor show at Rambouillet Park. The 30-minute spectacle featured stunning displays of eagles and owls in action. It was a treat to watch these magnificent birds of prey up close, showcasing their strength, precision, and grace. After the show ended, we left Rambouillet Park and made our way back to Paris. By 5:00 PM, we had returned to the city, feeling refreshed and grateful for the day spent surrounded by nature and wildlife.

Whether you're a history lover, an outdoor adventurer, or simply someone in need of a peaceful retreat, Rambouillet Park is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Paris.
